Volunteerism
Many of our employees volunteer through company-sponsored non-profit service projects through our Power of Caring program, donating numerous hours of service to our communities. Projects range from feeding the poor and rebuilding homes to mentoring at-risk youth and cleaning up streams. Our leadership helps drive our collective purpose by serving on the boards of more than 200 charitable organizations and foundations.
Supporting the Red Cross is another long-standing tradition among Constellation Energy employees. For many years, our company has held at-work blood donation drives at multiple company locations across the country. In 2007, employees donated more than 2,400 pints of blood through over 40 company-sponsored blood donation drives in central Maryland alone.
Employee Giving
Each year, Constellation Energy employees enthusiastically participate in the annual United Way campaign. In 2007, our employees contributed more than $3.4 million. To complement this tremendous giving, Constellation Energy matches $.50 of every dollar donated by employees. This combined 2007 generosity resulted in $5.1 million of charitable giving to various United Way chapters and local charities around the world, placing Constellation Energy as the largest corporate giver to United Ways in central Maryland; Calvert County, Maryland; Oswego and Rochester, New York. Our voluntary United Way giving program is supplemented by an ongoing program of matching employee gifts to institutions of higher learning. Last year, our matching gift program resulted in nearly $1 million of contributions to colleges, universities and other qualifying organizations.
